Windstorm Update: August 7

Thank you to the community

Sturgeon County would like to thank residents for their kindness, patience, and understanding during the cleanup efforts after the July 31 windstorm. Crews have finished clearing the roads and are now picking up debris piles. They will start wood chipping tomorrow.

Exactly how much did County crews clean up?

  • 86 individual sites cleared
  • 80 Km (50 miles) of road impacted by full or partial closure
  • Trees as big as 20” (400mm) in diameter were cleared from roads

Residents are also invited to recognize a neighbour who may have lent a helping hand during the power outage and cleanup efforts. Nominations for the Community Spirit Award are open, and prizes are awarded monthly. Thanking someone for their service to our community is a small gesture that can mean a lot.

Thank you to our employees and partners

A special thanks to Sturgeon County staff and the Transportation crews for their continued work cleaning up after the storm. During the past week, our crews worked tirelessly to restore critical infrastructure by clearing roads, bridges, and pathways to ensure our transportation networks are clean, accessible, and safe.

Thank you to Fortis Alberta for their cooperation and dedication to restoring power to all residents as quickly as possible.

Our community has experienced adversity over the years, and once again, you have shown that we are stronger together. As we move forward, we ask that residents continue to check in with their neighbours, lend a hand when needed, and support one another during challenging times.

A fire advisory is in effect for Sturgeon County due to high temperatures and lack of precipitation.
